Trevicia Williams' courageous and powerful memoir, her story of being picked up from high school by her mother at the age of 14, carried to the Justice of the Peace Court in Houston, Texas, and, married off to a 26-year man from Germany. It expose unthinkable twists in parenting, judgment, family, spirituality, abusive relationships, infidelity, and more.
During the four-year arranged marriage. I fought for my freedom from the emotionally, physically, and psychologically abusive situation that I only found myself in. Within weeks after the marriage, because me and the man I was married to had no place to stay, we moved into the small church that helped to arrange the marriage and slept on the floor. A year after the marriage, I became pregnant, and, as nature has it, 9 months later a mother.
My first major act of freedom from the shattering situation was when I was able to file for a divorce. On August 8, 1987, I was granted the divorce I filed for because I was legally eligible to do it. I think of myself as a survivor....someone who, through an incredible amount of faith and determination, overcame an experience that you usually only hear about in other countries. Heaven Answered: Parental Discretion Led to Justice of the Peace Court, A Shocking True Story About Life as a 14-Year-Old Child Bride in the U.S. is my true story—how it happened and how I got through it.
I am now part of the legal movement to end child marriage in America. A portion of the proceeds from each book sale will go to my Inside Out Moms organization wherein I help moms and their tween and teen daughters get through this turbulent phase through my signature I Love You, But, I Can't Stand You Right Now book and seminar.
